Rakesh Gupta, 46, the chairman cum managing director of Astra Net com India Pvt. Ltd. is often known in the industry as the Call Center King of India. He ventured into IT Enabled Services in 1999 and has since been credited with setting up some of the largest call centers in the country.

He set up the 1200 seat Air Infotech Center in 1999, the largest non MNC operated call center in the country at the time. He also played an important role in setting up some of the other major call centers, such as the 5000 seat customer care center for Khodays in Bangalore and the Joint Venture with the Jammu & Kashmir Government for a call center in Srinagar, among several others.

His expertise in the field has been widely recognized and is greatly sought after at various industry levels, in India and abroad.

He has also led several Indian delegations to industry meets worldwide.

In recognition of his expertise, as well as his potential in furthering India’s cause in the sector, the Government of India’s Ministry of Information Technology appointed him the Chairman of the IT Enabled Services Committee of the Electronic and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC).

He also has major interests in the field of aviation. After shelving the initial plans to launch a full-fledged airline, he acquired substantial shares in an aviation company, which is now the leader in the field of aerial pesticide spray and charters in India.

He was also into the paper business, manufacturing new-age paper products such as computer stationery, carbon-less paper, and carbon paper, among others. He was also the General Secretary of the Delhi Stationery Association, the youngest ever to hold that position.

Rakesh Gupta is an avid traveler and nature lover, and this has taken him all over the world. He also likes sports and enjoys an occasional game or two of golf or tennis with his family and friends. He lives in Delhi with his wife and two school going daughters.
